Budget Justification

Dorothy Krause will be receiving a half-time salary of $1000 per month for 24 months as the overall person in charge. In addition, she will be donating additional time valued in excess of $2000.

Gardening equipment will be purchased in the amount of $3596, with additional donations, including a shed, totaling $1500.

Landscaping and gardening materials such as hoop house materials, landscape timbers for raised beds, fencing materials, hardware, topsoil, compost, landscaping plants (evergreen shrubs, trees, native ornamental plants, flowing plants), perennial food plants, including strawberries, asparagus, rhubarb, and a variety of ornamental plants, bulbs,  fruit trees and bushes and many, many vegetable plants and seeds, etc) Total will be held to S24,612 plus $2000 in donations.

Consultant Services:

Madison Urban Ministries will receive a fee of $15,000 as the fiscal agent, and they have offered additional services in the amount of $3500 as part of the matching requirement.

A landscape consultant will be hired to work with the landscaping sub-grant awardees for a total of $2000. The schedule will be set between the contractor and the sub-grant awardees.

Garden educators from the CSA (community supported agriculture) groups will be hired in the amount of $2632 to work with gardeners and to provide class room training.

Subawards/Consortium/Contractual Costs

Sub-grants of $5000 will be awarded to 10 residents responsible to coordinate volunteers for landscaping projects around residences, establishing gardens as appropriate on building sites. $3600 will be a stipend for their efforts; $1400 will be used to purchase plant materials for their projects.

Four laborers will be hired to assist in the heavy lifting. They will work half-time for 22 weeks during the growing season for a total of $28,160

Sub-grant awardees will be working with volunteers, the total value of their donated time will have a value of $6000 over the two years of the project.
